Autoantibodies against the paranodal antigens contactin-1, neurofascin and Caspr were recently detected in a subgroup of patients with severe inflammatory neuropathies. In this project we aim to better characterize neuropathies with paranodal autoantibodies and to study the pathogenic effect of autoantibodies.

Parkinson’s disease is multisystemic disorder and phospho-alpha-synuclein deposition is not restricted to the CNS but can also be found in peripheral nerve, e.g. in dermal nerve fibers. We aim to develop biomarkers based on the detection of phospho-alpha-synuclein in peripheral tissues.
